Early Day Gas Engine & Tractor Association, BRANCH 30
Established 1990
One of the most interesting events to be put on by the Antelope Valley Fair is the Rural Olympics, a ritual that dates back to the 1930's. The features of the event include hay stacking (by hand and later mechanical), hay stealing, tug of war between East and West sides, sickle bar racing, truck and trailer backing among other things. Of course tractor racing was also part of the event. In the early days it was stock but became modified later on such as this 1941 Allis Chalmers B. Note the dual carbs and dual exhaust. This tractor was quite capable of doing better than 90 mph in the 1/4 mile! That would be some fast plowin'!!
